Hi. I'm Tim, I live in S. Illinois and I got to know Richard from other boards. I'm glad to be a memeber here. I'm 54 yrs old, am a Presbyterian minister, and have been playing bass guitar for well, almost 40 years now. I've gained a pretty good collection of "stuff" over the years, about 50 basses (Some good, bad, and ugly, including a couple of guitarrones) and some pretty cool Gibson and Fender electric 6 string guitars. I currently play in a CW band about 10 or so times a year, and used to gig fairly heavily with a Jazz quartet, but when I was a kid I did a lot of metal. I suppose thats one reason why I'm partially deaf in my left ear from too much driummer crash cymbals. In the Jazz band I did a lot of old standards on fretless. I still play fretless, but now I pretty well play 5 strings fretted basses, but am not afraid of my 4-bangers. I can do a 6 string bass but would rather not. I mean, how many strings do you need, eh? Anyhow, that about does it for me. Tim Schnautz

Which brings up a good question. If there there are only five fingers, four of which can be used why are there six strings on a guitar?

I suppose it's so you have spares in case you break one or two?
Good afternoon, Captain.

Now I'm all messed up. I have only four and a half fingers and only three and a half are used on the strings and one of them won't reach across the fretboard but I play an eight-string bass from time to time. Now what? John
