Tim, in my case it's usually because I haven't figured out what to price it at. I take trades and often "guestimate" the trade value based on general knowledge of the guitar and condition. I then go back and do some detailed research to find out what a fair price would be to ask for a particular guitar. I even have guitars hanging in the shop without a price listed. Tag says "ask". One in particular is virtually priceless. It's value depends on how badly someone might want it. If you notice, after a week or so, the "Call" on the price list on the website is replaced with a dollar amount. I doubt that's the reason the bigger shops do it, but it's usually why I do. Your shirt is packaged up. Just need to get it to the postoffice. RCE

Many times dealers will not advertise pricing due to franchise agreements with retailers. Many manufacturers will not let a dealer "Laundry List" prices in order to protect smaller retailers in a given market. Paul Reed Smith, Marshall, Fender & Gibson would prefer that their agents 'protect' the pricing in order to preserve profit margins for all involved. Back in the sixties & early seventies this was called "Fair Trade", but was later outlwed by the court system......

Most of the large on-line retailers (Musician's Friend, Sweetwater, etc.) have a "MAP" or "minimum advertised price" that the manufacturer will allow them to advertise. I've seen many Rickenbackers advertised for sale in which the retailer has to email the price to you.
